Wintersun 2008 starts on Friday 30th May and ends with the huge Best of Wintersun Concert on Monday 9th June. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring almost 1500 Hot Rods, Custom and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, and competitions. The festival is held in the border coastal towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads on the New South Wales & Queensland border. Many events are free, some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centres.

LATE PROGRAMME CHANGES - Unfortunately Harry DeLuxe is unable to make Wintersun this year, we are pleased to advise the The Darling Buds Of May (Perth) are now performing. Cap Gun Johnnies are replaced by The Flatfoot Shakers at Coolangatta Hotel.

 

Under considerable pressure from Gold Coast Police and other emergency services, Wintersun has agreed to make a number of significant changes to our 2008 layout.
It is hoped that these changes will allow:
a)  easier traffic flow for vehicles not attending the festival
b)  access for most resorts and residences within Coolangatta
c) greater access for fire, police or ambulance in case of an emergency situation
d) greater and safer area for viewing weekend car cruises
e) some growth areas for future years.
f) Wintersun to plan ahead and keep the festival in the Coolangatta / Tweed area.

The changes we have made are the result of a significant consultation period and, we believe, are the best layout to meet police expectations while maintaining the atmosphere of the festival.
The initial feeling of the Wintersun Board of Management was to fight to maintain the 2007 format at least until the completion of the Tugun bypass, however, after three months of negotiation and consultation we believe that the new layout will work and will address most of the issues raised. We are particularly excited by the new car cruise route which will allow for far greater spectator numbers in a safer environment.
The 2008 Friday & Saturday Night Car Cruises will run from Marine Parade into Hill Street (NOTE HILL climb) and on to Rainbow Bay Surf Club and back.  A 3 KM cruise lap including a fairly steep hill and plenty of viewing area. 

 

Roads shown in yellow will remain open to traffic throughout the weekend.
The festival will operate in three precincts.
ZONE 1 will include Marine Parade from Dutton Street to the border.
ZONE 2 will include Goodwin Park, Lanham Street, Scott Street and part of car park.
ZONE 3 will be the Boat Harbour area around Twin Towns.
Entry to Precincts 1 and 2 will be Warner Street (from Griffith Street).
Entry to precinct 3 from Boundary Street.
